Early Thursday morning, terror unfolded on a public bus in central Athens when a man armed with a one-meter-long axe began threatening fellow passengers.
The incident occurred around 4:20 a.m. near Monastiraki Square on Ermou Street. The bus driver quickly noticed the armed passenger and immediately stopped the vehicle. He then alerted a nearby police team, who responded without delay.
Authorities approached and restrained the 51-year-old man before he could react further. The axe was confiscated, and the suspect was handcuffed and taken into custody at the Omonia Police Department, where he remains held.
Thanks to the swift action of both the driver and the police, no passengers were harmed, and the situation was quickly brought under control.
