Man Arrested After Assaulting Wife on Ferry in Front of Children

A 63-year-old man was detained by port authorities after violently attacking his wife during a ferry trip from Salamina to Perama, as their children looked on. The woman was taken to hospital for treatment, and an investigation is underway

A disturbing case of domestic violence unfolded on a ferry traveling from the island of Salamina to Perama, near Athens, when a 63-year-old man physically assaulted his wife in front of their underage children.

According to initial information, the man repeatedly hit the 50-year-old woman with punches and kicks during the voyage. Witnesses reported that the couple’s children cried and begged him to stop, but the attack continued until the ferry’s crew alerted the Hellenic Coast Guard.

As soon as the ferry docked in Perama, port officers boarded the vessel and arrested the 63-year-old. The victim was immediately transferred to Nikaia General Hospital for medical care.

The incident is now being investigated by the 4th Port Authority of Perama. It comes amid growing national concern in Greece over the rise in domestic violence cases, which continue to draw public and institutional attention.
