Man Arrested After Attempted Rape in Piraeus

A 54-year-old supermarket employee fought off an attacker during a morning assault, with police quickly locating and arresting the suspect shortly after the incident

A 27-year-old man has been arrested following an attempted rape of a 54-year-old woman in the port city of Piraeus, authorities said.

The incident took place on Sunday morning, March 30, outside a supermarket where the woman works.

Sudden attack outside workplace

According to reports, the woman was outside the store when she was approached by the suspect, who launched a sudden assault. He reportedly used physical force, grabbing her by the neck in an attempt to immobilize her.

The attacker then proceeded to sexually assault her, reaching under her clothing.

Victim resisted and called for help

Despite the attack, the woman resisted and managed to fend him off. She then called for help, prompting an immediate police response.

Officers from a rapid response unit quickly located and arrested the suspect shortly after the incident.

A criminal case has been opened against the 27-year-old, including charges of attempted rape as well as violations related to immigration laws.
