Man Arrested in Athens for Using Store to Hide Stolen Goods

A 35-year-old man allegedly used a downtown mini-market as a front for stolen items, with police seizing jewelry, cash, and smuggled products during a coordinated operation

Greek police have arrested a 35-year-old man in central Athens for allegedly operating a mini-market as a front to hide stolen goods. The arrest took place on August 21 in the Omonia area following a coordinated operation by the Agios Panteleimonas Crime Investigation Unit, supported by the DIAS Police Team.

Authorities had been monitoring the store, suspecting that it was being used to store stolen items for resale on the black market. During searches of both the mini-market and hotel rooms where the suspect was staying, police confiscated cash, jewelry, and illegal products.

Among the items recovered were:

  • Six gold chains
  • One gold coin and one gold ring
  • €12,030 in cash
  • Two precision electronic scales
  • A gold purity tester
  • Five kilograms of tobacco
  • Thirty packages of electronic cigarettes without required tax labels

The 35-year-old has been brought before the public prosecutor. Police investigations are ongoing to identify possible accomplices and fully map the extent of his operations.
