Greek police in Glyfada have arrested a 42-year-old foreign national in connection with a series of thefts targeting parked cars. The suspect, along with two accomplices, had been stealing handbags and other valuables for several months.
The gang used a frequency-jamming device to prevent car doors from locking. Once a target vehicle remained unlocked, the thieves would open it and remove items without interference. In cases where the tactic failed, they reportedly resorted to breaking windows to steal their loot.
To avoid detection, the group coordinated using earpieces, and a lookout monitored the surroundings for police presence during each theft. Authorities say the gang carried out at least 24 incidents in Glyfada, with total stolen goods exceeding €40,000.
The 42-year-old suspect has a prior record for similar offenses and was serving a two-year suspended sentence. After his arrest, he was handed over to the prosecutor. Police are continuing efforts to locate the two remaining accomplices.
