Man Arrested in Piraeus Over Attacks on Seven Women

Police say the suspect is linked to an attempted rape and multiple sexual assaults after victims identified him during the investigation

Police in Greece have arrested a 36-year-old man suspected of sexually attacking several women in the port city of Piraeus, near Athens.

Authorities say the suspect, an Egyptian national, is linked to one attempted rape and six incidents of sexual assault reported in the area in recent months.

Arrest during police check

The man was arrested on the afternoon of March 16 by officers from the police motorcycle patrol unit, a rapid-response police team, during a routine check.

He was initially taken to the Kamini–Neo Faliro Criminal Investigation Department, where he faced preliminary charges including disobedience, violence against public officials and violations of immigration law, as he did not possess the required residency documents.

Victims helped identify suspect

During the investigation, the suspect was transferred to the Piraeus Criminal Investigation Sub-Directorate, where authorities began examining his possible connection to a series of attacks on women.

Police say the victims’ testimonies played a key role in identifying the suspect, with several women reportedly recognizing him.

Investigators believe the attacks occurred in different areas of Piraeus over a recent period.

Investigation continues

Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine whether the suspect may be linked to additional cases.

Police have not ruled out the possibility that more victims could come forward as the inquiry progresses.
