An 82-year-old woman was attacked with a knife late Tuesday night while returning to her apartment after taking out the trash in the central Athens neighborhood of Exarchia. The suspect, a 45-year-old male neighbor, reportedly assaulted her without provocation, claiming she had “put a curse” on him.
The woman suffered injuries to her head, neck, and limbs. She was rushed to the Red Cross Hospital, where doctors assessed her wounds as non-life-threatening.
Police responded immediately and arrested the attacker at the scene. According to reports from local media, the man is believed to suffer from psychological issues. He remains in custody at the local police station.
Authorities have not yet released the suspect’s identity or further details about his mental health history.
