Authorities in northern Greece have imposed a heavy fine on a 62-year-old man after he abandoned two puppies in the Asprovalta area, near Thessaloniki. The puppies, estimated to be just one month old, were left alone and vulnerable, prompting immediate intervention by local police.
Following an investigation, officers from the Volvi police station identified the man and initiated legal action under Greece’s companion animal protection laws. In addition to the criminal proceedings, authorities recorded five administrative violations, totaling €65,300 in fines. The case file has been submitted to the public prosecutor for further legal review.
The abandoned puppies were rescued by authorities and are now receiving proper care and attention. Officials emphasized that Greece maintains strict penalties for the abandonment or mistreatment of animals, highlighting the country’s commitment to animal welfare.
