Man Killed After Car Drives Wrong Way in Thessaloniki

A 25-year-old pedestrian died and another was injured after a driver reportedly entered the opposite lane and crashed onto a sidewalk.

A 25-year-old man was killed and another pedestrian injured after a car drove on the wrong side of the road and mounted a sidewalk in Thessaloniki, northern Greece.

According to Greek police, the 27-year-old driver was traveling in the opposite lane of traffic for reasons that remain under investigation before losing control and veering onto the sidewalk.

The vehicle struck two pedestrians. The 25-year-old victim died from his injuries, while the second pedestrian was injured and taken to the Hippokration Hospital for treatment.

Authorities arrested the driver at the scene, and an investigation into the circumstances of the crash is ongoing.

Witnesses told local media that the car was traveling at high speed before the collision. According to their accounts, the driver was heading uphill and did not slow down despite road reflectors placed shortly before the location of the crash.

Some witnesses also reported that another vehicle, a BMW, was moving at extremely high speed in the same area at the time of the incident.
