A fatal accident occurred in Athens’s Metaxourgio district on Friday when a man was struck by a Hellenic Train suburban railway train at the intersection of Konstantinoupoleos and Achilleos streets.
According to MEGA, the victim attempted to cross the tracks at an unguarded point when he was hit by the oncoming train. The busy junction is regulated by traffic lights for vehicles but does not include a designated pedestrian crossing, as it is not considered a pedestrian route.
Emergency services responded immediately. Six firefighters with two vehicles carried out the recovery, while police and ambulance crews also attended the scene.
The man’s identity has not yet been released.
