Greek police are closing in on three new suspects in the ongoing investigation into the double murder at a campsite in Finikounda . Authorities say critical phone record evidence from seven mobile devices could shed light on the identities and roles of those involved.
The police are analyzing the data, which will take 24 to 48 hours, hoping it will confirm suspicions and potentially reveal additional participants in the killings. Officials also suspect that one alleged accomplice has been attempting to hide crucial information.
“We hope to add further evidence to the file currently with the investigating judge this week, which will help clarify some outstanding issues,” said Konstantia Dimoglidou, spokesperson for the Hellenic Police, emphasizing ongoing efforts to gather surveillance footage.
Alleged Accomplice Under Scrutiny
Authorities remain unconvinced by the claims of a 22-year-old alleged accomplice, who stated he swam to Kalamata after the crime. Suspicion has grown as he reportedly switched between multiple Pakistani-registered phones, raising questions about his credibility.
Meanwhile, the primary suspect, a 22-year-old Greek-British man, maintains his innocence, denying that he shot and killed the 68-year-old campsite owner and his 61-year-old manager. His lawyer, Dimitris Gavelas, told MEGA that the supposed identification by the victim’s nephew may have been either an honest mistake or intentional, and that there is no concrete forensic evidence linking his client to the shootings.
Three New Arrests Expected
Authorities are reportedly close to identifying a mysterious collaborator who may have helped transport one of the suspects from Finikounda to Athens. According to MEGA, three new arrest warrants are expected to target:
- A key individual suspected to be the mastermind behind the murders.
- A second person potentially responsible for organizing the killings.
- A woman allegedly involved in transporting the 22-year-old accomplice.
Investigators are working to consolidate evidence before proceeding with the arrests.
Video Evidence of Initial Attempt
MEGA has obtained video footage of the first attempted attack on the 68-year-old entrepreneur, which occurred on September 7. The footage shows the alleged 22-year-old accomplice chasing the victim and firing an airgun, while the entrepreneur tries to fend him off with a white shirt. Although he escaped that initial attempt, he was tragically murdered days later.
