Mykonos Police Arrest Burglar, Seize Loot Over €195,000

Mykonos police say searches of a residence and vehicle uncovered a trove of stolen goods, including luxury watches.

Police in Mykonos managed to uncover a series of unsolved burglary cases on the cosmopolitan island after they apprehended an Albanian national accused of stealing loot with the crime proceeds reportedly estimated in the thousands of euros.

The suspect is accused of targeting multiple luxury hotels and stealing precious items from rooms, including expensive brand-name bags, luxury watches, jewelry, and various personal items.

According to the police, the accused and his accomplice, who is still at large, had reportedly amassed more than €195,000 worth of loot over a period of 10 days between August 26 and September 6.

Officers from the Mykonos Security and Immigration Department, with support from a special operations team, gathered and analyzed video footage from various locations on the island while carrying out discreet surveillance.

Police say that on seven occasions, the culprits identified rooms in high-end hotels with unlocked balcony doors and entered in the morning hours while the occupants were asleep.

As tanea.gr reports, the most striking case occurred on September 6, 2025, when the burglars broke into a hotel suite in Agios Ioannis where a couple and a relative were staying ahead of their wedding that same day. The thieves made off with items worth €116,000, including jewelry, luxury watches, and even the wedding rings and crowns.

A key breakthrough came with the identification of a rented white FIAT 500 and a dark scooter, which were being used as getaway vehicles.

Searches of a residence and vehicle uncovered a trove of stolen goods, including

  • Seven luxury watches (among them Rolex, Cartier, and Tiffany),
  • Designer handbags (Hermès, Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, and Goyard),
  • Dozens of gold items and pieces of jewelry,
  • Personal documents belonging to victims—including the ID card of an Italian tourist,
  • A flashlight, gloves, binoculars, and burglary tools.

The value of the seized items is considerable, with many already identified by the victims.

Authorities determined the suspect had entered Greece illegally and was subject to entry bans imposed by France and Spain. Although he was not arrested under flagrante delicto rules due to the time lapse, he remains in custody pending deportation. Prosecutors have filed felony charges in the case.
