Olympiacos, Church and Municipality Deliver Easter Aid to Families in Piraeus

Through an initiative led by Evangelos Marinakis and supported by the Municipality of Piraeus, food supplies and essential goods are being offered to vulnerable members of the community, ensuring that more families can share in the Easter table.

The Holy Metropolis of Piraeus, with the steadfast support of Olympiacos FC and its president, Evangelos Marinakis, has once again organized the distribution of “parcels of love” for the holy days of Orthodox Easter.

Through an initiative led by Marinakis and supported by the Municipality of Piraeus, food supplies and essential goods are being offered to vulnerable members of the community, ensuring that more families can share in the Easter table. The effort is centered at the Church of Saint Nicholas, the city’s patron saint, where Metropolitan Seraphim of Piraeus spoke about the significance of the initiative to MEGA Channel.

“This great feast of love, Easter, calls us not only to walk alongside Christ but to share in His sacrifice and resurrection,” the Metropolitan said. “There is no better way to live these profound messages of God’s love than by offering compassion to those who need it most.” He added that every person should be seen in the image of Christ, emphasizing that the joint effort—bringing together the Church, Olympiacos, the municipality, and numerous volunteers—reflects a united community opening its heart to those in need.

Piraeus Mayor Yiannis Moralis highlighted the long-standing collaboration behind the initiative, describing it as “a powerful alliance of solidarity” that has been active in the city for years. He underscored the importance of repeated efforts throughout the year, noting that such actions have become a defining strength of Piraeus.

Vasilis Vasileiadis, president and CEO of the Karaiskakis Stadium, pointed to Marinakis’ consistent presence in times of need. He noted that 150 care packages were being delivered to the municipality’s Social Grocery, alongside a donation supporting the Easter meal. In addition, 1.5 tons of meat—including 150 lambs—are being distributed to families in need.

Amid rising living costs, Vasileiadis observed, more people are turning to the Church for support, making such contributions all the more vital. He also highlighted the participation of Olympiacos players in the distribution effort, as well as additional financial support provided to clergy not covered by state payroll.
