The sudden death of former prime minister Antonis Samaras’ only daughter, Lena, last Thursday from an apparent heart attack at an Athens-area hospital brought an outpouring of condolences and grief on Monday.
Lena Samara passed away at the age of 34 at central Athens’ Evangelismos Hospital after first being transferred from north Athens’ Sismanoglio, where she was taken after one of two serious epileptic seizures.
The woman’s funeral was held at the Athens First Cemetery, with mourners including most of the country’s top political leadership, current and former, practically the entire Cabinet, hundreds of other friends, family and associates of the Samaras family.
Lena Sarama is survived by her parents, Antonis and Georgia, a brother and a grandmother.
She graduated high school from the Athens College in 2008 and subsequently studied civil engineering in London.
