Starting Friday, March 13, drivers on the Patras-Pyrgos motorway will benefit from a new kilometer-based toll system, paying only for the distance they travel via the Olympia Pass.
The system, already in use on the Athens-Patras section of the motorway and as of Friday, expanding to the new Patras-Pyrgos motorway, marks a significant shift from flat-rate tolling. Private vehicle drivers and professionals using an Olympia Pass transponder will see charges automatically calculated based on entry and exit points. Any distance not traveled is refunded, ensuring fair and accurate tolls.
Olympia Odos — the Elefsina- Korinthos-Patras-Pyrgos-Tsakona motorway operator — has been gradually implementing the program since 2021 as part of its strategy to modernize toll collection and improve traffic efficiency. The company says the new system reduces congestion on local roads, enhances motorway safety, and provides a faster, more economical route for users.
Drivers enrolled in the Value discount program can save up to 77%, depending on travel frequency. For example, a commuter traveling between Mindilogli and Kato Achaia 40 times a month would previously pay 144 euros in tolls. With the Olympia Pass, this cost drops to just 38.15 euros, a saving of over 70%.
The hybrid kilometer-based tolling system uses electronic gantries to track vehicle movement and applies to all vehicle categories except motorcycles. Users can activate the service by acquiring an Olympia Pass transponder online or at designated client service points. While the transponder works on other Greek motorways under GRITS, the distance-based discounts are exclusive to Olympia Odos.
