Pet Food Prices Surge Up to 73% in Just Seven Months

Pet owners face soaring costs as prices for dog and cat food rise sharply. Between March and October 2025, some products increased by up to 73%, significantly raising the annual expenses of caring for cats and dogs

Pet owners in Greece are feeling the pinch as the cost of pet food rises at alarming rates, leaving many struggling to afford basic care for their cats and dogs. Recent data show price hikes on several common products over just seven months.

Price Increases by Product

Over the past two years, bulk and branded cat foods, as well as canned tuna for cats, have also increased by 21–28%, further straining pet owners’ budgets.

Rising Annual Costs for Pet Care

For cats, estimated annual expenses now range from €546 to €830, including dry and canned food, litter, parasite treatments, and vaccinations.

For small to medium-sized dogs (5–12 kg), yearly costs can reach €790 to €1,160, factoring in food, vet visits, vaccines, parasite prevention, and grooming.

Impact on Pet Owners

These rapid increases highlight the financial pressure on households with pets. Even routine items like dry dog food have seen the highest surge at over 70%, making pet ownership increasingly expensive.

Pet owners are advised to plan budgets carefully and monitor prices, as inflation in pet supplies shows no sign of slowing.
