A 50-year-old man has been arrested in the northern Athens suburb of Kifissia after police discovered ten amphora fragments at his residence dating from the Hellenistic period through to modern times, authorities announced.

Officers from the Kifissia Criminal Investigation Department raided the property on March 14 following a tip-off. The search yielded ten underwater amphora fragments, which were seized: four dating to the Hellenistic period, four to the Byzantine period and two to the modern era.

The suspect was charged with misappropriation and violation of legislation on the protection of antiquities and cultural heritage.
He was brought before the competent prosecutor, while the seized artifacts will be processed in accordance with cultural heritage protection procedures.
