Police Hunt Suspect in Double Murder at Greek Campsite

Authorities are investigating a possible inheritance motive and a motorcycle found in the nearby town of Pylos following the brutal killing of two men at a campsite in southern Greece

Greek authorities are intensifying their search for the suspect behind a double murder at a campsite near Finikounda, in the southern region of Messinia, after discovering a motorcycle believed to have been used in the assailant’s escape.

The abandoned vehicle was found on Monday afternoon in the nearby coastal town of Pylos, as homicide detectives from Athens and a coroner from Corinth joined local investigators on the case.

According to reports, the gunman fled immediately after the killings on a black motorcycle heading toward Koroni, and police are also examining the possibility that he had an accomplice.

Witness Account

At the time of the shooting, the nephew of the campsite owner was present. He told police that the gunman appeared to be young—possibly a minor—blond and fair-skinned, and that he made no attempt to hide his face. The suspect reportedly spoke broken English before escaping on the motorcycle, where a second person may have been waiting.

Security camera footage from the area has been collected and is now being analyzed by forensic experts.

Investigating a Possible Inheritance Motive

Authorities are also examining whether inheritance disputes may have played a role in the killings. The campsite owner, one of the victims, reportedly owned several valuable properties in the area and had recently amended his will, excluding certain heirs while adding the name of the site’s caretaker—who was also murdered.

Preliminary findings suggest that the gunman entered the campsite on foot and engaged in a brief conversation with the 68-year-old owner before opening fire.

It has also emerged that the businessman previously reported an attack in September, when an unidentified assailant wearing a ski mask shot him with an air gun at another of his properties.

Police have launched a widespread manhunt in southern Greece as forensic teams continue to examine evidence from the scene.
