Police Release 9-Month Figures for Crete District at Center of Vendetta Feud

Authorities said 104 firearms were seized and 345 people arrested in the Phaistos Municipality, where the beleaguered village of Vorizia is located

Two days after an outdoor shootout between rival clans in a Cretan village left two dead and heightened concerns over more vendetta-related violence the local police precinct released information over the past nine months on law enforcement activity, noting that nearly 13,400 checks were made on vehicles and individuals.

The area covered by the Phaistos precinct includes 26 administrative units, including the now infamous village of Vorizia, over 412 square kilometers and with a population of roughly 24,000 residents.

Along with the aforementioned, warrants for searches of 33 residences and 27 sheep pens were executed, with a total of 104 firearms seized and 345 people arrested. Of 2,151 violations verified, more than 1,700 were traffic code-related, while 22 were for animal rustling.
