The tourist was reportedly hiking in the mountainous area of Zagori, designated a UNESCO World Heritage site, with her husband.

Greek police and the fire department have launched a search and rescue operation to detect a woman from the Netherlands who went missing in the region of Zagori in Epirus, northwestern Greece.

The tourist was reportedly hiking in the mountainous area of Zagori, designated a UNESCO World Heritage site, with her husband.

According to reports, her husband sent a distress signal to the 112 SMS early warning system notifying authorities that his wife had disappeared after walking near an elevated location known as Skala to take photos.

The man told police he had separated from his wife temporarily to take some pictures but was unable to find her when he returned.

He said after failing to locate her whereabouts, he sent for help via 112. Police officers, firefighters, and the special disaster response unit (EMAK) are operating in the wider area, while an ambulance is on standby to provide first aid.

Zagori comprises a cluster of 46 picturesque villages nestled among the steep slopes of the Tymfi mountain range and was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2023. It attracts thousands of visitors every year.
