Search for Missing Swimmer as Other Body Found Nearby

Greek coast guard conducts search off Alexandroupoli amid strong winds, while a separate incidents nearby left one dead

Authorities in Greece are searching for a possible missing swimmer off the coast of a beach near Alexandroupoli. The operation, coordinated by the Joint Rescue Coordination Center, involves a coast guard vessel, private boats, and a land unit. Eastern to northeasterly winds of 4–5 Beaufort are complicating the search.

Earlier in the day, a 92-year-old man was found dead in the port area of Alexandroupoli, just a few kilometres from the search zone. His body was taken to the General Hospital of Amfissa for a forensic examination to determine the cause of death.

The identity of the man found has not yet been established, and a preliminary investigation is under way.
