A second Belharra-type (FDI) frigate acquired by the Hellenic Navy from France’s Naval Group, the “Nearchos”, began sea trials in the Atlantic on Wednesday.
The development comes after last month’s celebrated arrival in Greece of the first Kimon-class frigate, the “Kimon” at the Salamina naval station.
According to sources with shipbuilder Naval Group, mostly propulsion, safety systems and electronic sensors are now being tested in real-time situations.
The same sources explained that shortly before the new frigate is delivered to the Hellenic Navy, its crewmembers will undergo training at the Lorient shipyard.
Greece has ordered a total of four such state-of-the-art warships for its navy.
The arrival of the Kimon in Greek waters in January 2026.
