A shocking dog attack on Saturday claimed the life of an 18-month-old baby on the Ionian Island of Zakynthos. Initial reports so far have a family pet pit bull attacking the child in the yard in front of a residence in the Aghios Leontas settlement.
The child apparently approached the dog, with the later reacting violently and viciously attacking the latter.
The child’s parents frantically called an ambulance and first responders, who transported the seriously injured child to a nearby hospital. Physicians reported that the victim was dead on arrival.
Both parents, an Albanian national and a British woman, who were identified as long-time residents of Zakynthos, were taken into custody as a police investigation continues.
The incident has shocked the local community on the island, according to media reports.
