A 23-year-old man has been arrested on the island of Skiathos after a 17-year-old tourist accused him of raping her.
According to the teenager’s statement to police, she met the man through mutual friends while on holiday in the Sporades. They were out socializing on Thursday night when, she claims, he managed to isolate her and sexually assault her.
The victim, in a state of shock, went to the local police station and reported the incident. Officers from the Skiathos Police Department arrested the suspect on Friday afternoon. He is expected to appear before the duty prosecutor in Volos on Saturday. A forensic examination of the victim has been ordered.
The case has caused significant concern in the local community and is being investigated thoroughly. Authorities are gathering evidence and witness statements to fully clarify the circumstances of the incident.
