Taxi Driver to Testify for Missing Teen

Police are questioning a taxi driver who took 16-year-old Laura to Athens airport, as investigators try to confirm whether the missing teenager boarded a flight to Germany while her parents were reporting her disappearance

Greek authorities are intensifying efforts to trace a 16-year-old girl who since early January, focusing on her movements on the day she is believed to have traveled abroad without her family’s knowledge.

According to police findings, the teenager, identified as Laura, is believed to have purchased a same-day airline ticket to Frankfurt and left the country on the very day her parents went to the police to report her disappearance. Investigators estimate that she is now in Germany, although this has not been officially confirmed.

Ticket Purchase and Airport Transfer

Police say the teenager arrived in Athens and visited a travel agency in the city center, where she bought a ticket for a flight to Frankfurt departing later that afternoon. The agency’s owner confirmed that the ticket was issued for a same-day flight and paid for in cash.

After purchasing the ticket, Laura took a taxi to Athens International Airport. Authorities have now identified the taxi driver who transported her and are expected to call him in for questioning, hoping to clarify details about her condition, destination and any conversations that may have taken place during the ride.

Security camera footage reportedly places the teenager in the central Omonia area just hours before she is believed to have boarded the plane.

Airline Silence Complicates Investigation

Despite strong indications that Laura traveled to Germany, the airline involved has not confirmed whether she boarded the flight. According to a police spokesperson, the Greek police sent three separate official requests to airlines operating routes to Germany, but the specific airline that issued the ticket never responded, even after being warned that the case involved a potentially endangered minor.

The lack of confirmation has left investigators unable to state with certainty that the teenager actually left the country.

International Cooperation Underway

Greek authorities have nevertheless informed German police through European law enforcement channels. German authorities were asked to alert Greece immediately if the teenager is located anywhere in the country. Checks were also carried out with relatives living abroad, but so far no confirmed contact has been established.

Police note that by the time Laura’s parents reported her missing at around 8:00 p.m., she was believed to have already landed in Germany, based on the flight schedule.

All Scenarios Still Open

Officials stress that no possibility has been ruled out. While evidence suggests the teenager managed to leave Greece, neither the airline nor foreign authorities have formally confirmed her arrival abroad. Investigators continue to analyze travel records, surveillance material and witness statements in an effort to determine her exact whereabouts.
