There is encouraging news about the 13-year-old student from Haidari, a suburb of western Athens, who was seriously injured after falling from the first-floor balcony of a local middle school on April 20 under circumstances that remain unclear.
According to the president of the Pan Hellenic Federation of Public Hospital Workers, the teenager has now overcome the immediate danger and is being treated in the Neurosurgery Department of Agia Sofia Children’s Hospital in Athens. Her condition has shown significant improvement, he said.
According to his statement, the 13-year-old is moving her arms and legs, is aware of her surroundings, and is communicating with both doctors and family members. The tracheostomy that had been placed during her hospitalization has also been removed.
The same information indicates that she is expected to be discharged from the hospital in the coming days and transferred to a specialized rehabilitation center, where she will continue her recovery.
The president praised the medical and nursing staff at the hospital for their dedication and efforts, describing the outcome as a “medical miracle.”
“Life defeated death,” he wrote in his statement.
