A 14-year-old boy is in intensive care after suffering a serious head injury in an electric scooter accident on the Greek island of Corfu.
The teenager lost control of the scooter while riding with friends and fell, striking his head. He was initially taken to the island’s local hospital, where doctors diagnosed an epidural hematoma, a dangerous type of brain injury caused by bleeding between the skull and the brain.
Doctors performed emergency surgery before transferring the boy by air ambulance to the “Agia Sofia” Children’s Hospital in Athens, one of Greece’s largest pediatric medical centers. He is currently intubated and receiving treatment in the hospital’s intensive care unit.
Accident during ride with friends
According to initial reports, the teenager was riding the electric scooter outside the city when he lost control of the vehicle.
Family members said the boy was riding downhill when the scooter’s handlebars began to shake, causing him to fall.
“He was playing with friends. No one hit him and no car was involved,” the boy’s father told local media. He added that his son was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
Emergency response and transfer
The boy contacted his mother after the fall, who immediately alerted his father and emergency services.
He was quickly transported by ambulance to the hospital in Corfu, where doctors determined that he required urgent surgery and specialized care.
Medical staff stabilized him before arranging an emergency air transfer to Athens, where he continues to receive treatment.
