The 17-year-old who admitted killing his father on the Greek island of Leros told investigators he had endured years of physical and verbal abuse, according to details from his testimony.
The teenager, who has been released pending further legal proceedings with the agreement of both the investigating judge and prosecutor, described what he said was a violent home environment and the events that led to the fatal confrontation.
In his statement, the minor said his father frequently insulted and assaulted him, often mocking him for taking prescribed medication.
“He used to hit me a lot. He constantly insulted me,” the teenager said, recounting the verbal abuse he said he faced. He also claimed his father had previously attacked him with tools, leaving visible scars that he showed to investigators.
The teenager said that during arguments he would often leave the house on his motorbike or turn to his mother to complain about the abuse.
He also described incidents in which his father threw a screwdriver at him, leaving scars on his back and head, and claimed his father once pierced his palm with the tool. In another incident, he said his father injured his finger during a workplace accident involving a forklift and later struck the same finger again.
The fatal incident occurred at the family’s workshop, according to his testimony.
The teenager said his father entered the workshop and began verbally abusing him because he had not completed enough work. He then allegedly started throwing motorcycle parts from a shelf.
“At some point he picked up an expensive cylinder and piston and threw it at me,” the teenager said. “It hit me on the right side of my abdomen.”
He said he instinctively caught the part and threw it back without looking.
“When I looked up, it was too late,” he said.
According to his testimony, his father did not collapse immediately but first sat down and asked for water. The teenager said he realized something was seriously wrong when they moved him outside the workshop.
“I didn’t want my father to get hurt,” he told authorities. “I ask for your leniency.”
