The minor was later released, while his father was arrested on charges of neglecting the supervision of a minor.

A 14-year-old student was taken to police in Zakynthos after being found carrying a handgun in his school backpack, Greek media reported.

According to state broadcaster ERT, classmates noticed the weapon at the Zakynthos Music Gymnasium and immediately alerted the school’s principal. The principal then notified the local security police, who intervened and followed standard procedures.

The minor was later released, while his father was arrested on charges of neglecting the supervision of a minor and violating Greece’s firearms legislation, authorities said.

The possession of weapons in Greece is prohibited for citizens unless they are granted a special permit by the police. Transferring weapons, even to licensed individuals, is prohibited. Penalties for illegal weapon possession depend on the weapon type and legal requirements, but possession is always classified as a misdemeanor, punishable by imprisonment.
