A 19-year-old woman was violently attacked by her 18-year-old former boyfriend in Kallithea, a southern suburb of Athens.
The incident took place near the victim’s home, where the two had arranged to meet to talk. During the meeting, the 18-year-old allegedly threatened her and then stabbed her in the leg with a kitchen knife before grabbing her cellphone and fleeing.
The 19-year-old described her former partner as pathologically jealous, obsessive and violent. She said she had ended their relationship three months earlier because of his abusive behavior and had previously filed two complaints against him. Despite the breakup, she said, he continued to harass her by phone.
The 19-year-old was found by a passing police patrol and immediately taken to Laiko General Hospital, where she received first aid.
Authorities eventually located the 18-year-old in Kallithea, where he was arrested. He faces charges of domestic violence and theft.
It is noted that the 18-year-old had previously been accused of domestic violence by his own sister. A court had also imposed a restraining order barring him from approaching the victim, which he reportedly violated.
Through his lawyer, the 18-year-old apologized to the woman and her family. He claimed that he did not want matters to reach this point and attributed his actions to being “blinded” by jealousy.
