The Thessaloniki Metro will close to passengers for one month, from Monday, November 10 to Wednesday, December 10, as authorities carry out critical tests linked to the network’s expansion toward Kalamaria.
According to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, the temporary suspension is necessary to safely complete trials of trains and systems on the new extension.
Adjusted Schedules Announced
Ahead of the closure, from October 6 to November 9, trains will operate on the following timetable:
- Monday to Friday: 06:30 – 23:00
- Saturday and Sunday: 08:00 – 23:00
After services resume on December 11 and until December 20, the metro will return to its standard schedule. Starting December 21, new extended operating hours will take effect:
- Monday to Thursday: 05:30 – 00:30
- Friday and Saturday: 05:30 – 02:00
- Sunday: 05:30 – 00:30
Ongoing Technical Issues
Currently, four stations—Democracy, University, Fleming, and Voulgari—remain temporarily closed due to technical problems, adding to the disruption.
The ministry emphasized that the timetable changes are designed to ensure smooth and safe testing as Thessaloniki prepares to expand its metro system eastward.
