Treasure Hunter Trapped in Central Greece (video)

According to reports, the man was part of a group of individuals searching for a treasure near a small settlement in central Greece.

A rescue team is fighting against the clock to free a treasure hunter trapped in a cave burrow near the city of Larisa in the region of Thessaly, central Greece.

According to local reports, the man, 53, was part of a group of four or five individuals searching for a stash of gold coins near a small settlement called Gonnoi, located northwest of the Pineios River, close to Tempi.

The group of treasure hunters was reportedly trying to locate gold coins in a burrow they had dug inside a cave, reaching a depth of at least 10 meters.

However, the man, under unclear circumstances, fell into the crevice, forcing his fellow adventurers to call the authorities through the emergency number 112.

According to the latest information, a rescue team from the Special Disaster Response Unit (EMAK) successfully reached the 53-year-old man and provided him with oxygen. He reportedly responded, but the operation to free him is still ongoing.

Speaking to MEGA TV, the son of one of the group’s members—who called the authorities and was later taken to the hospital—said:

“At some point, he [trapped man] called me asking for help, and I told him to dial 112, since I didn’t know where he was. That was around 12:00. I had no idea where the place was, so I told him to call so that 112 could locate him. I don’t know anything more.”

Residents of the area said they had noticed a group of four individuals who had recently been at the site, setting up a small “worksite.”

At the location, there was a cave, and the four reportedly attempted to dig a larger tunnel inside it. It is worth noting that the other two members of the “treasure-hunting team” left the scene and are currently being sought.
