Three People Burned Alive After 3-Vehicle Collision in NE Greece

A major accident on the Egnatia Highway in northern Greece left three people dead and several others injured after a truck collided with two cars, causing a fire. Authorities closed the road as emergency teams responded to the scene

A deadly traffic accident occurred on Monday morning on the Egnatia Highway in northeast Greece, between the cities of Komotini and Xanthi, near the Iasmos tolls.

Shortly after 11 a.m., a truck collided with two cars under unclear circumstances, igniting a fire. Three passengers in one of the cars were tragically charred to death, while a fourth was seriously injured and taken to Xanthi Hospital.

The truck driver also sustained serious injuries and was transported to the same hospital. The second car involved carried four passengers, none of whom appear to have suffered serious injuries.

The fire spread rapidly to nearby farmland, prompting authorities to close the Egnatia tollway in the direction from Komotini to Xanthi to allow emergency teams to manage the scene.

Officials are investigating the cause of the collision, which remains unknown at this time.
