Truck Overturns on Northern Greece Highway

The overturned vehicle is currently blocking both lanes of the carriageway heading towards Thessaloniki

A truck overturned early on Friday, July 18, on the Egnatia Odos motorway, causing major traffic disruptions in the direction from Igoumenitsa to Thessaloniki and Kipoi.

The accident occurred at the 208th kilometer of the highway, near the local community of Drepanon in the Kozani region, according to national broadcaster ERT.

Driver Hospitalized, Traffic Severely Affected

The driver of the truck, which was carrying paper products, was transported to Kozani General Hospital by ambulance. Fortunately, he did not suffer serious injuries.

The overturned vehicle is currently blocking both lanes of the carriageway heading towards Thessaloniki. As a result, traffic is being diverted exclusively through the emergency lane (Λ.Ε.Α.), leading to significant delays.

Recovery Operation Underway

Authorities have announced a temporary traffic stoppage will be necessary in order to remove the truck. First, the cargo will need to be unloaded before the vehicle itself can be cleared from the roadway. Local traffic police and a fire service unit responded quickly to the scene to manage the situation and coordinate the recovery operation.

Drivers using this section of the Egnatia Odos are advised to proceed with caution and expect delays until the vehicle and its cargo are fully removed.
