Turkish Patrol Boat Attempts to Drive Away Greek Vessel Near Farmakonisi (Vid)

According to allegations by the Greek fishermen, who shot the video, the Turkish coast guard vessel was escorting Turkish trawlers illegally fishing in Greek territorial waters

A video showing a Turkish coast guard patrol boat in what are identified as Greek territorial waters attempting to drive away a Greek fishing vessel from the area on Sunday emerged a day later.

The latest such incident, which reportedly lasted several hours, took place near small eastern Aegean Isle of Farmakonisi, with Athens-based Star channel posting the video footage recorded by the Greek fishermen.

According to reports by the Greek side, several Turkish trawlers were seen illegally fishing in Greek waters in the presence-cum protection of the Turkish coast guard vessel.

At one point the patrol boat approached the Greek vessel and tried to force its pilot away by creating waves.

What is also noteworthy is that a Frontex vessel, part of the EU border patrol agency, was nearby and observing.

The Turkish patrol boat, via radio, called on the Greek fishermen to leave the area, claiming that they were in Turkish territorial waters.
