Two Men Jailed for Arson in Patras Wildfire Case

A 19-year-old and a 27-year-old have been jailed over fires in Patras that destroyed forest, farmland, homes, and businesses, after one of them reportedly confessed to starting the blaze.

Two men, aged 19 and 27, have been jailed in connection with wildfires that tore through the Sychaina area of Patras, burning forest land, farmland, homes, and businesses.

The suspects face multiple charges of arson, including setting fires on both forested and non-forested land, on repeated occasions, and acting in collaboration.

According to Greek public broadcaster ERT, the 19-year-old reportedly confessed to starting the fire and even led police to the exact spot where the blaze began. The location matched the findings of the Fire Service’s Arson Crimes Unit, which had identified the ignition point in the area of Vounteni, near Sychaina.

The fires caused extensive damage to natural landscapes and property before being brought under control. The investigation continues, but authorities have already ruled that the two men will remain in custody while legal proceedings move forward.
