Kimberly Guilfoyle described her recent meeting in Athens with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I as “deeply meaningful” in a social media post published on Wednesday.

According to the ambassador, the meeting focused on support for the Patriarch’s spiritual mission as well as the United States’ commitment to protecting religious freedom in the region.

Guilfoyle said she had the opportunity to express her “unwavering support” for the Patriarch and discuss issues related to faith, dialogue and international cooperation.

She also praised the spiritual leadership of the Greek Orthodox Church, saying it continues to inspire “service, faith and purpose” around the world.

The ambassador further highlighted the role of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in promoting dialogue and peace internationally.

In her post, Guilfoyle wrote that the discussions underscored the importance of religious freedom and the broader influence of Orthodox Christian leadership beyond Greece and the wider region.

The meeting took place during Patriarch Bartholomew’s visit to Athens.
