New Clash Rekindles Tensions in Crete Village

The mother of slain 39-year-old Fanouris Kargakis was arrested after a member of the rival family accused her of making threats and trying to hit her with a vehicle.

Ten months after an armed confrontation that left 39-year-old Fanouris Kargakis and 57-year-old Evangelia Fragkiadaki dead, tensions between two rival families in Vorizia, Heraklion, remain high.

The feud between the families resurfaced Friday night, on the eve of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary, in a new incident that led to the arrest of Kargakis’ mother.

According to information reported by Patris.gr, officers from the Mesara Special Police Unit arrested the woman following a complaint by a member of the rival family.

The complainant that the woman threatened her and attempted to run her over with her vehicle.

The woman, for her part, filed a counter-complaint alleging false reporting.

She is expected to appear before the Heraklion Courthouse on Monday as part of the procedure for arrests made in connection with offenses caught in the act.
