Athens Closes Central Road Until End of Year

Athens drivers face long-term traffic changes as works on Kallirrois Street continue until 31 December, alongside additional restrictions in the city center on Friday due to Armed Forces Day events

Long-term traffic restrictions have come into effect in Athens, with sections of Kallirrois Street expected to remain closed until 31 December 2025 due to ongoing roadworks. The measures, which began on Friday, 21 November, affect key parts of the road in both the Kallirrois and Lagoumitzi junction area.

According to authorities, the right-hand traffic lane toward central Athens will be closed over a 30-meter stretch, while an additional closure will be in place at the point where Kallirrois connects with Lagoumitzi Street. Traffic will be routed through the remaining lanes, with a minimum width of 3.5 meters maintained where necessary. Drivers are urged to follow posted signage and exercise caution.

Further disruptions are scheduled for Friday, 21 November, as central Athens hosts events marking Armed Forces Day. From early morning, parking and vehicle circulation will be prohibited on several major streets, including Mitropoleos, Aiolou, Ermou, Vasilissis Amalias Avenue, Syngrou Avenue (near the Acropolis area), and Athanasiou Diakou Street. These restrictions will remain in place until the completion of the official ceremonies.

Authorities recommend that drivers plan alternative routes and allow extra travel time throughout the day.
