A wildfire is currently burning through a forested area near the village of Spilia in the municipality of Tempi, within the Larissa region of central Greece. According to Greece’s Fire Service, the fire started in a wooded location and has prompted a rapid response from both ground and aerial firefighting units.
Initial reports indicate that the blaze began when a vehicle traveling on the road between Spilia and Anatoli caught fire, with flames spreading quickly to nearby vegetation. Challenging weather conditions, particularly strong winds, have made firefighting efforts more difficult.
A total of 40 firefighters have been deployed to the scene, supported by two ground teams from the 10th Special Disaster Response Unit (EMODE) and 11 fire engines. In addition to ground operations, a firefighting helicopter has been dispatched to assist from the air.
Efforts to contain the fire are ongoing. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, as weather conditions continue to pose a risk of further spread.
