Wildfires Rekindle in Preveza and Ignite in Tinos Amid Extreme Fire Risk

Civil protection issues top-level wildfire danger warning as strong winds and high temperatures drive new blazes in Tinos and reignite flames in Preveza

Greece’s civil protection authorities have issued an extreme wildfire danger warning for today, Sunday, August 10, as strong northerly winds and soaring temperatures continue to heighten the risk of new outbreaks and flare-ups.

In Tinos, a fire broke out in low vegetation in the area of Lychnaftia on Sunday afternoon, prompting the mobilization of 10 firefighters with four vehicles and two helicopters, assisted by municipal water trucks.

At the same time, a new alarm was raised in Preveza for a major flare-up in Vrysoula, where a forest fire erupted on Saturday, threatening the nearby village.

Firefighting forces, volunteers, and municipal crews had managed to contain the blaze late last night, continuing work into the early hours to extinguish scattered hotspots. However, today’s strong winds reignited the fire, and an additional helicopter has been requested to aid the operation.

Authorities remain on high alert as gusty conditions hinder containment efforts and increase the threat of further outbreaks.
