A 36-year-old woman was arrested on Monday shortly before reaching Malandrino Prison in central Greece on drug possession and trafficking charges.
Police said they intercepted the woman, an Albanian national, as she was traveling with the parents of her fiancé, a local man serving a maximum sentence at the prison, after receiving information that she intended to smuggle drugs into the correctional facility during a scheduled visit.
While in police custody she voluntarily handed over two packages containing nearly 110 grams of unprocessed cannabis, which were seized. Authorities said the drugs had been concealed in a condom in a body cavity and in the lining of her bag. She claimed the contraband was intended for her imprisoned fiancé.
The inmate is serving consecutive maximum sentences for multiple felonies, including homicide. He was also charged in connection with the case.
Both suspects were brought before a local prosecutor in the town of Amfissa referred to an investigating magistrate.
