Woman’s Scalp Removed in Factory Accident

The worker was hospitalized with severe head injuries after her hair was caught in machinery

A 40-year-old woman was seriously injured in a workplace accident in Kiato in the Peloponnese after her hair became entangled in factory machinery, causing severe head trauma, authorities said.

The incident occurred at a factory where the woman was working.  Her hair got caught in a machine, resulting in the partial removal of skin from her scalp, extending from the forehead to the back of her head.

Emergency response and hospital transfers

The injured worker was initially taken to a local health center, where doctors quickly determined the severity of her condition. She was then transferred to a hospital in Corinth before being moved to Gennimatas General Hospital for specialized treatment.

Doctors said the woman is now in stable condition and out of immediate danger, following emergency surgery performed by plastic surgeons.

Though the woman’s life is not at risk, medical experts say her injuries remain serious and recovery is expected to be challenging.

“She is in good condition, but the injury is severe,” said physician Matina Pagoni, noting that doctors faced a difficult surgical procedure and that the patient is also dealing with significant pain and psychological strain.

Investigation into working conditions

Police were immediately notified, and authorities launched an investigation into the circumstances of the accident.

The factory owner, also aged 40, was arrested but later released on a verbal order from a prosecutor. A case file has been opened, and investigators are taking statements from employees as part of the ongoing inquiry.

According to police spokesperson Konstantia Dimoglidou, the victim is a foreign national who was living in Greece without legal status and was allegedly working without proper authorization.
