Greek pole vaulter Emmanouil Karalis delivered an impressive performance at the Golden Spike meet in the eastern Czech city of Ostrava, clearing 5.92 metres to secure second place in a highly competitive field.
Karalis opened his competition with a missed attempt at 5.62m, but quickly found his rhythm. He cleared 5.82m on his third try, and then smoothly cleared 5.92m on his first attempt – a mark that would ultimately earn him the silver position.
Following this success, the 2025 European Champion made the bold decision to skip the 5.97m mark, opting instead to attempt 6.02m, a height that would place him among the sport’s elite. Though he didn’t manage to clear it this time, Karalis once again showed his ambition and ability to challenge world-class standards.
Sweden’s Armand Duplantis dominated the sport once again clearing 6.13m. He failed to get over 6.29 metres however, for what would have been a new world record nine days after setting his latest one at 6.28m.
