Olympiacos Condolences Over Traffic Accident That Claimed Lives of PAOK Fans

UEFA: Thursday match in France between Lyon and PAOK for Europa League cannot be postponed

Olympiacos FC expressed the club’s deep sorrow over the death of seven PAOK Thessaloniki fans on Tuesday during a traffic accident in Romania, while extending condolences to the families of the victims.

In a post on FB, Olympiacos FC notes that “…there are no words in such tragic moments. We express our sincerest condolences to the families of the victims of the traffic accident in Romania and to the entire PAOK family.”

Seven passengers of a mini-van carrying fans to a Europa League matchup in France, against Lyon, perished when the vehicle slammed head on into a tanker truck. One passenger was intubated and in serious condition. Two others were injured.

No postponement of game

In a related development, shocked PAOK FC officials earlier noted that they have contacted the Greek prime minister’s office and the relevant ministers of the interior, health, and citizens’ protection “to ensure the best possible communication and coordination with Romanian authorities.”

Club officials also said the Greek embassy in Bucharest was contacted and representatives were dispatched to the scene of the tragedy.

The match will not be postponed UEFA made it clear that postponing the match on Thursday is impossible as it is the last game of the League Phase, with the drawing for the play-off pairings taking place on Friday.
