Tentoglou’s Shock Exit in Long Jump World Championships Final

Greek Olympic champion Miltiadis Tentoglou admitted it was the “worst competition” of his career after cramps forced him out of contention in the Tokyo final

Greek long jump star Miltiadis Tentoglou had a disappointing performance at the World Athletics Championships final in Tokyo, finishing 11th after failing to reach his usual distances.

Tentoglou, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, recorded his best mark at 7.83 meters in his opening attempt. However, he was unable to continue effectively, dropping out of the second stage of the competition after Spain’s Léscay overtook him in the standings.

Reflecting on the result, the 26-year-old did not hold back. “It was the worst competition of my life,” Tentoglou admitted.

He explained that his problems began almost immediately: “I felt excellent and strong during warm-up. Maybe it was a mistake to push harder than usual then, but I am in the shape of my life and thought everything would be fine. But these things happen.”

From his very first jump, Tentoglou began to suffer cramps in both calves, which severely limited his performance. “After that, I couldn’t do anything,” he said.

Despite the setback, the Greek champion is already looking ahead to his next major competition, determined to bounce back after what he called a night to forget in Tokyo.
