Stefanos Tsitsipas beat Jiri Lehecka 3-1 sets (2-6, 6-1, 7-6, 6-1) to reach the fourth round of the US Open for the first time in his career.
The Greek tennis star, playing unseeded at this US Open, overcame a slow start to defeat Jiri Lehecka 2-6, 6-1, 7-6, 6-1 and set up a last-16 clash with Ben Shelton, who later defeated Canada’s Denis Shapovalov.
The Greek champion, competing at the tournament as an unseeded player for the first time, secured his 10th career appearance in the last 16 of a Grand Slam. He will next face either Ben Shelton (No. 9).
Tsitsipas fell behind 3-0 in the opening set and went on to lose it 6-2, but lifted his level as the match progressed. He finished with 15 aces, more winners than his opponent (34-22) and fewer unforced errors (30-41).
The 28-year-old sealed the win and the fourth-round berth after 2 hours and 34 minutes on court.
