Between Jan. and Dec. 2025, airports nationwide handled 83.33 million passengers, up from 79.42 million in the same period of 2024, underscoring the continued momentum of Greece’s aviation sector.

Aircraft movements also followed an upward trajectory. Across the 39 airports where air traffic control is primarily overseen by the HCAA, the total number of arrivals and departures—both domestic and international—increased by 4.1% compared with 2024.

Even stronger growth was observed at the 24 airports directly managed by the HCAA, including Heraklion, Kalamata, Alexandroupolis, Lemnos, Astypalaia, Ioannina, Chios, Karpathos, Paros, Naxos and Sitia, among others. Passenger traffic at these airports climbed by 6.9% over the year. From Jan. to Dec. 2025, they handled a combined total of 12.82 million passengers, compared with 12.00 million in 2024.

Germany and France Keep Backing Greece
International demand remains a key driver of this performance. Germany and France continue to “vote for Greece,” as reflected in Bank of Greece data showing sharp increases in travel flows from both countries. In Nov. 2025 alone, travel from Germany rose by 47.1%, while arrivals from France jumped by an impressive 89.6%.

The strength of inbound tourism translated into solid financial results. The travel balance posted a surplus of 505.2 million euros in Nov. 2025 and 19.94 billion euros over the Jan–Nov. period. Travel receipts increased by 27.7% in Nov. and by 8.9% in the first eleven months of the year, while inbound travel overall grew by 9.7% in Nov. and 4.6% on a cumulative basis.
