A holiday in Zakynthos turned tragic for a 57-year-old Polish tourist who died while swimming at the island’s iconic Navagio Beach, also known as “Shipwreck Beach.”
According to local authorities, the man had arrived at the remote cove on a tourist boat — one of many that ferry visitors daily to the picturesque bay surrounded by towering cliffs. Shortly after entering the water, he lost consciousness.
Fellow swimmers noticed he was in distress and pulled him to shore, where they attempted to provide first aid. A boat later transported him to a waiting ambulance, which took him to Zakynthos General Hospital “Agios Dionysios.”
Doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival, saying it was too late to offer any medical assistance.
The Port Authority of Agios Nikolaos Volimon has launched an investigation into the circumstances of the incident.
