UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced his resignation on Monday morning, following rising pressure from within the Labour party. After coming in power in 2024 through a landslide victory, the government will now change it’s sixth PM in seven years.
He stated that he will do all in his power to ensure a stable transfer of power and offering his successor his full support.
Towards the end of his speech, Starmer became emotional, thanking his wife, Lady Victoria Starmer for “being a rock by my side in good times and bad”.

He also set out a timetable for the nominations of the next leader of the Labour party, to be completed by the 9th of July, vowing to remain PM until that day comes.
The Leading Candidate
The Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham is perceived to be the leading candidate to take Starmer’s place, following a decisive win in northwest England, that secured his return to parliament.
